We were recently designated a Star Library system by Library Journal, one of the library field’s leading professional publications. Libraries earn star ratings by being in the top 30 of their nationwide expenditure peer group based on four per capita statistics:
- Library visits
- Check outs
- Program attendance
- Public computer use.
Library Journal rated 7,572 public U.S. Libraries and only 263 were given a star rating. Henrico was among six libraries in Virginia to receive a star rating and one of only three in the state to receive a four star rating.
We concluded fiscal year 2013 with some impressive statistics! Last year, in addition to borrowing over 3.8 million items, customers visited the library system’s ten branches over 2 million times.
“We are proud to receive the star library designation,” said Jerry McKenna, Library Director. “And are grateful to serve a community that values and uses its libraries.”
